Meet the Artist: Making Art into Metal

Meet the Artist: Making Art into Metal

Welcome, my name is Reid Caelum. I'm a parent of two young boys, and we currently live in North Carolina.

I'm a new jewelry maker but a long-time artist. For most of my life, I have expressed myself through pencil drawings, which have always been my go-to choice of art style. The simplicity of a pencil and paper has allowed me to capture moments, emotions, and the intricate beauty of the world around me. Though pencil drawing has been my primary medium, I also have a little experience working with air-dry clay, which added a tactile element to my artistic expression.

This year, however, I discovered something truly amazing: silver clay. With that discovery, I felt a spark of inspiration that led me to start creating beautiful, nature-themed jewelry. Silver clay is a fascinating material that begins as a soft, moldable substance and transforms into pure, solid silver when fired. The process of shaping, refining, and polishing each piece brings me immense joy and fulfillment.

Nature has always held a special place in my heart. I have always loved the quiet, peaceful beauty of the outdoors, from the rustling leaves in the forest to the delicate wings of a dragonfly. Every leaf, flower, and insect tells a story of resilience and grace. My goal is to capture that feeling in every piece of jewelry I make, creating wearable art that reflects the wonders of the natural world.

Starting this journey as a jewelry maker has been both exciting and deeply rewarding. With each new design, I find myself growing, learning, and falling even more in love with the craft. I hope that when you wear my jewelry, you can feel the same sense of awe and appreciation for nature that inspired its creation.

Thank you for joining me on this adventure. I can't wait to share my love of the living world with each of you, one silver treasure at a time.

Warmly,
Reid Caelum
